St. Stephen is proud to welcome to our staff Dr. Tom McFarlane of CC&PC (Center for Counseling and Pastoral Care). We are excited to bring his experience and much needed service for the healing of individuals and families. Dr. Tom McFarlane will be taking appointments at St. Stephen on Fridays. Biography:
The Reverend Doctor Tom J. McFarlane earned a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Pastor Counseling and Psychotherapy at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois in 1988; a Masters Degree in Theology at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas in 1977; a Bachelors of Arts Degree at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota in 1973.
In 1974 Tom was ordained by the United Methodist and is an Elder and Full Member in the Northern Illinois Conference. He is a certified Clinical Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. He completed a four year residency at the Pastoral Psychotherapy Institute at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge Illinois and a Basic Unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Parkland Hospital, Dallas, Texas.
Tom pastored churches full time in Northern Illinois and Texas for over twelve years. He chartered two congregations in the Chicago area. He has been a pastoral counselor for over twenty-five years, co directing the Center for Counseling and Pastoral Care for more than ten years.
Tom is married and living in the St. Louis suburb of Manchester. He is grandpa to an eight year old bouncing boy and father to two grown daughters who are both aspiring scientists.. The older daughter is a doctor of environmental forest ecology and research scientist at Lawrence Laboratory in Livermore, California. His younger daughter is a microbiologist at Missouri Baptist Hospital. Both young women grew up in the Manchester United Methodist Church.
