Children's
Welcome to St. Stephen’s
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
We believe that children are important at St. Stephen United Methodist Church. We want to take this opportunity to let you know about our activities for children.
Sunday mornings begin at 9:00 a.m. with Children’s Church for children ages 3 through 3rd grade in the Purple Room.
Children’s Church
Children ages 3 (potty-trained) through third grade are welcome to join in the fun at Children’s Church from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. on Sundays. In September the drama group performed two skits for Children’s Church. One was about Samson and the other one was about The Fiery Furnace. In October we will have a harvest theme. The group meets in the purple room at the end of the hallway in the children’s wing on the main floor.
Cherub Choir
A cherub choir has formed and is off to a great start. Children age 3 – second grade are welcome to join in the fun. The group meets from 10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. with Barb Gross in the children’s wing on the main floor on Sundays.
Children’s Sunday School
Children age 3 (potty-trained) through fifth grade are welcome to join in the fun from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. In September we started taking a look at the Commandments. In October we will continue a look at the Commandments, covering #6-9. The group meets in the purple room at the end of the hallway in the children’s wing on the main floor.

Of course we can’t forget about the Infant and toddler Nursery which provides a peaceful loving area where children can play and learn about Jesus under the guidance of a team of paid and volunteer care givers.. This environment is specially designed to meet the needs of young children ages 6 weeks to 36 months and their parents. It is open from 8:30 a.m. until 12 noon on Sunday mornings in the Blue room down the children’s hall. It is available to all parents who would like to attend worship or small group studies, or if they would just like to use the space to calm their child. There are diaper changing and toilet training facilities as well as a monitor to observe the worship service. This service is also available for various small group studies during the week. Check with your group leader to make sure.

St. Stephen’s Hand Bell choir provides children opportunities to assist in Worship services. Ringers meets on Thursday evenings at 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the choir room. They are lead by Sue Schroeter.
Other opportunities for children to serve at St. Stephen include acolytes. Lori Kirby is the acolyte coordinator. Children interested in being acolytes need to be in third grade, and tall enough to be able to light the altar candles safely. Most of the children serve as acolytes until they outgrow the robes around 7th or 8th grade.
